Captain Michael (”Mike”) EVERETT Royal Navy

Mike was one term above me at Dartmouth – and a House Cadet Captain (Grenville?).  We were in the Dartmouth 1st XV in the autumn term 1951.  In due course he became a submariner, and our paths crossed no further, but he finished up as Captain SM 1 in the mid-1980s.  I remember him primarily (forgive an old man’s maunderings) for a most splendidly romantic party on the river at Henley in the summer of 1955, which we attended as the escorts to two of the girlfriends of the daughter of the host – all the girls had been to the Triangle Secretarial School in Kensington.  He and I both married our escorts of that night (a punt, on the river, on a balmy summer’s evening, well wined and dined, is very romantic!)
