Richard joined the RNZN in November 1946. BRNC, RN Engineering College. Served in HMS Anson, HMS Bermuda and HMS Nereide. 1947-50.   HMNZS Black Prince, HMNZS Bellona, and HMNZS Pukaki 1950-58. NZ High Commission Staff 1958-62, HM Dockyard Portsmouth 1962 -64. Director Marine Engineering RNZN 1968-70. Captain Superintendent HMNZ Dockyard Auckland 1970 -79.   Following his retirement he was a Consultant Engineer in Auckland
