Commander Harry Johnson MBE Royal Navy

Commander Johnson served in the Second World War and the Korean War and in 2018 was awarded the Chevalier de la Region d’Honneur medal from the French Government for his part in the liberation of France in June 1944. At the time he was serving in HMS Enterprise supporting the American forces off Utah Beach on D-Day. His MBE was presented by the late Queen in December 1952. In total he served on board 5 ships, interspersed with periods at many shore bases. After retiring from the Navy in 1973, he joined the RN Engineering Services as a civilian. His final position until retirement in October 1982 was as Chief Services Engineer at HMS Neptune. He died on 6 Oct 23 at the remarkable age of 101 having maintained his complete independence at home until the last short spell in hospital.
