Commander Ian Inskip MiD Royal Navy

Cdr Ian Inskip (Qual PWO(N) 1977, † 1979) passed very suddenly and also very peacefully on 24 Jun after a long battle with motor neurone disease. 

“Joined the RN as a Cadet in 1962. After obtaining BWC/ONC in HMS CAMBRIAN, served for 8 years in submarines before a diving injury forced a return to General Service. After qualifying as a PWO(N) served as SNO to Capt F2 1977-1979. Qualified as a Dagger N in 1979, then completing the Staff Course before joining HMS GLAMORGAN in Aug 1980 under Captain Mike Barrow. Mentioned in Dispatches for the part played in saving HMS GLAMORGAN from destruction by Exocet 12 June 1982. 



1982 – 1984 served as SNO to FOST. Promoted Commander in 1984, serving as Fleet Plans Officer and AFSOUTH Navy Ops before returning to Northwood as Fleet Navigating Officer. Final appointments were in Naval Security before retiring in 1997.


Worked for Cornwall College, lecturing as a Registered Safety Practitioner, until effectively retiring in 2007. Now keeping busy helping my wife run a holiday accommodation business and acting as a RBL Poppy Appeal Organiser and member of the RBL County Management Board.
