Commander John A. (‘Usually known as ‘Johnny’ May’) May L.V.O. Royal Navy

John had suffered from Multiple Sclerosis for something like 33 years: for the first ten years, he was able to continue in the Service as a staff officer, at first in MoD(N), and later on the staff of CinCNavHome. He was finally invalided/retired in about 1984.
