Commander PG (‘Pongo’) Blanchford OBE Royal Navy
From a Naval family – his father being an Engineer (ME) – Pongo enjoyed a career & a life of wonderful variety : starting after BRNC with some years at RNEC before transferring to FAA as Wasp pilot. Thereafter, variously, Flight Commander at sea & BRNC, CinCNavHome Management Study Team, CTG345 in the Hole, NATO staff in IZMIR, Turkey, 1st Lt. ZULU, NA Cairo : and then Parish Council Clerk & local footpath expert who organised the Devon section of the Trafalgar Way in 2005. Engineering craft training at RNEC was put to good use in a bewildering variety of DIY projects based in his self-built workshop. His wife Erica died in late 2008.
