Commodore Desmond David (‘Dusty’) Miller MiD RAN Retd

CNS Australia has advised of the death of Commodore Desmond David   (“DD’’ or “Dusty”) Miller MiD RAN Retd. at the age of 89. 

Commodore Miller was born in Corowa NSW in 1927 and joined the RAN in November 1945 as a Radio Mechanic. 

He was commissioned in 1953 as an Air Electrical Officer and subsequently served in several RN ships and shore establishments, most RAN shore establishments and in HMA Ships ANZAC, MELBOURNE, PARRAMATTA and PERTH. 

For his service as the Weapons Electrical Officer in HMAS PERTH during her first and second Vietnam deployments in 1967/68 and 1968/70, he was awarded a Naval Board Commendation and, subsequently, a Mention in Dispatches. 

He was promoted to Captain in 1972 and then to Commodore in 1981 as Naval Officer Commanding Victoria.  He retired in late 1982. 

His funeral will be held in Corowa tomorrow.
