LCDR Walter Michael (‘Wally ‘) Blumenfeld
Migrated to Australia in 1939 to escape the Nazis. Joined UK merchant marine and became a master. Reserve service with the RAN for a decade including brief stints with the RN, being based with the Blue Star Line in London. Joined the RAE during the Vietnam war as a major, and drove some of the Australian army transport ships to Vietnam. Three lengthy commands on three occasions. Later joined the public service (shipping). A volunteer guide at AWM. A proud Australian Jewish ex-serviceman who was fondly regarded by all who knew him.
