Lieutenant John ('Johnny') Myerscough DSC Royal Navy

A Fleet Air Arm wartime pilot of outstanding ability. He was sent to Florida in 1941 for flying training and was awarded his wings in January 1942. He had an active war, serving in a number of carriers, and participated in Arctic convoys, the Allied landings in North Africa and at Salerno, and served in the Indian Ocean where he was awarded the DSC. After the war he returned to his peacetime occupation and for 45 years he was manager of what latterly became the TSB in Preston. A Russian campaign medal was replaced in 2016, allegedly on President Putin’s instructions because it had been of inferior quality. Myerscough died aged 100.
