Commander Peter Poland OAM Royal Navy

Dear members,

It is with great sadness that I advise the passing of NOA member Commander Peter Poland OAM RN Ret’d.

Peter was a Seaman Officer in the RN who held four commands during his career, three Executive Officer postings and two training positions for Junior Officers and Petty Officers. His last Command was HMS Zest a Type 15 Frigate, which he brought into Sydney Harbour. Peter emigrated to Australia in 1972 and worked in retail Management. Since 1987 Peter had worked in the field of history and heritage.

In 2018 Peter published a book titled Tobruk and Beyond, War Notes from the Mediterranean Station 1941-1943 describing the exploits of his father, Captain Albert Poland, Senior Naval Officer Inshore Squadron.
