Rear Admiral Cedric John Steward Royal New Zealand Navy
Cedric Steward joined the RNZN in 1949 and trained at BRNC. After serving in HMS Devonshire and HMS Glory he returned to NZ. He then served in various RNZN ships. In 1957 he was posted to RANC Jervis Bay as the first RNZN officer on the staff a post that continued until the the mid 1970’s when the RNZN ceased training officers at RANC. He commanded HMNZS Inverell between 1966 and 1969. He attended the JSSC at Lattimer in 1969. He then commanded the Frigates HMNZS Otago and HMNZS Canterbury between 1972 and 1975 the later as Captain F11. He attended RCDS in 1978. After various staff appointments he was promoted Rear Admiral and was CNS from April 1983 until 1986.
