Rear Admiral David Cooke CB MBE
David and I worked together in the ‘ship shop’ in the then DNPlans in 1994/5. I was AD Ships and he was then a Commander, one of the very able team we were fortunate to work among.
Our paths had not crossed much – he being a submariner – but he was a great colleague, an excellent staff officer and a warm-hearted friend to many. I hadn’t caught up with him since those days, but I was saddened to hear the news of his untimely demise via the Clerk to the Shipwrights (pasted below for ease of reference).

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you of the death of Rear Admiral David Cooke CB, MBE following complications after recent surgery and a long illness. David is survived by his wife, Sarah, and their three children.
Following a long and distinguished career in the Royal Navy, David was the Clerk of Christ’s Hospital from May 2009 to December 2012. He became a Freeman of the Company in 2007, Received the Freedom of the City in 2008 and progressed to the Livery the same year. David attended the Shipwrights’ Banquet last month, accompanied by his daughter.
We have no further information at this very sad time.
