Rear Admiral John Foster McKenzie CB CBE

John McKenzie joined the RN as a Special Entry Cadet in Jan 1942. At the same time one other New Zealander John Corbett also joined the RN and four other New Zealanders were the first RNZN Cadets. He was to have been an Engineer but the paperwork covering his recruitment was lost and he became an X 

He served in submarines and in 1947 transferred to the RNZN 

He was a TAS Specialist. He commanded HMNZS Stawell in 1955/56 and HMNZS Otago in 1962/63. Between 1965 and 1969 he was Head, NZ Defence Liaison Staff London. From 1973 he was Commodore Auckland before becoming CNS in 1975. He retired  in late 1977
