Rear-Admiral Stanley Lawrence (‘Stan’) McARDLE G.M., M.V.O.
See the DT obit itself. His GM was awarded for a most courageous rescue in the great storm of 31 January 1953, when he was a Lieutenant in the ‘Contest’. He was one of the few who have risen from Boy Seaman to Flag rank.
