Sub-Lieutenant Horace Neil Truscott AM, RANR

WWII service in corvettes in the SWPA, 1942-1943. Joined the then External Affairs Department in the inaugural intake of diplomatic staff cadets in 1943. An Arabist who also spoke German. I may have met him when he was the Consul-General when HMAS Melbourne visited San Francisco in 1967. Knew him in the Foreign Service. Neil was ambassador to Beirut (1970-73) and Baghdad (1977-1978) and Damascus (1978-1981). Active in the community with cultural instutions and as a volunteer at the Australian War Memorial.
