Vice Admiral Sir Arthur Hezlet

Born in 1914, Vice Admiral Sir Arthur Hezlet joined the RN in 1935, specalising as a submariner. During World War II he commanded HM Submarine H44, HM Submarine URSULA, HM Submarine TRIDENT, HM Submarine THRASHER, and HM Submarine TRENCHANT. He later commanded HMS SCORPION 1949-1950, was Chief Staff Officer to Flag Officer (Submarines) 1953-1954; Capt (D), 6 Destroyer Sqn 1955-1956; Director of RN Staff College, Greenwich 1956-1957; commanded HMS NEWFOUNDLAND 1958-1959; was Flag Officer (Submarines) from 1959 #to 1961; Flag Officer (Scotland) 1961-1962; Flag Officer, Scotland and Northern Ireland 1963-1964. After a disagreement with the then 1SL he retired in 1964.
