Sir, – As we all ponder the transition to a Net Zero carbon emission world, the implications on naval propulsion pose some interesting considerations. Amongst them, one could imagine the re-emergence of the nuclear carrier question, with the potential for a wider uptake of small reactor plant easing the financial impact and, if I was to hang my hat on any particular technology today, the transition to a hydrogen-based propulsion plant for most maritime transport.
