By the Editor: As an advocate of the UK’s nuclear deterrent, this article reflects the Author’s personal observations and reflections of CASD whilst serving in the Submarine Service during the period 1967 to 1997. He was actively involved in the introduction of Trident but, on the other hand, he never served in an SSBN.
