By the Editor – As the Squadron Ops Officer to the then Second Frigate Squadron I was given the responsibility of planning and integrating the return of women to sea in 1990, first in HMS Brilliant then throughout the squadron, and all in time to send the ships to the First Gulf War. For me it was a ‘no brainer’ – why when the human race is equally divided between the sexes had we avoided drawing on the talents and capacity of half of that race?
