By the Editor – There is danger in ‘Global Britain’ being interpreted as all things east of Suez. Looking south is equally critical to our national interests, as the author highlights in this article. An area of water off the coast of West Africa, the Gulf of Guinea (GoG), remains largely outside the day-to-day thoughts of most UK Naval personnel; it is broadly speaking not an area in which we operate.
