Sir, – I do not have green fingers. Some members of the Ships’ Names Committee, though, clearly did have green fingers when the names were given to the 112 Flower-class sloops and Q-ships built 1915-1918 – the class Sir, – Pre Pay-As-You-Dine (PAYD) and before bar chits were outlawed as an inappropriate use of public money, the Trophy Store was in Hardy Block, HMS NELSON (now demolished). I don’t remember if the staff were civil servants, whether this was a charge to the public purse I don’t know or they were welfare fund employees – I don’t see the PAYD contractor volunteering to pick this up…
