Sir, – We now seem to be living in a weird ‘Woke’ world but at age 85 I am unlikely to be eliminated for selection to play for England because of something I said when I was 19. But surely we have had slang names for citizens of other nations for generations – and still do. Certainly, all our NATO allies and our potential enemies have slang names, some a little more pejorative than others, depending upon ancient history; and so do those in the southern and eastern hemispheres.
