By the Editor – Many, in recent years, have written in this journal to highlight concerns over the ascendancy of the ‘Middle Kingdom’. We have seen a step change in the rate of that ascendency in 2020, where the opportunity (provided by the West’s potential foundering on the rocks of Covid-19) for China to become increasingly assertive on the world stage, has been grasped.
