By the Editor: Brexit has reignited the issue of sovereignty and, when it comes to fishing, lessons of the past are pertinent. This article is based on the author’s presentation to the University of Iceland in 2007, in front of a senior Icelandic Coast Guard audience, which marked the launch of his book The Royal Navy in the Cod Wars. And it reflects on some of the lessons from the Cod Wars that the RN might now have to revisit if ‘robust’ fishery protection is called upon once more.
