Sir, – I am sorry for offending Rob Forsyth (his letter NR109/4). That said, the Survation national polls he refers to do not support his argument that the UK should unilaterally abandon its nuclear deterrent. Unsurprisingly, the polls show a majority view that all nuclear weapons should be banned globally – an aspiration that I would certainly support, as I suspect would other members of the NR. At the risk of offending him again, the important point he misses is that none of the polls he quotes include the word unilateral. Radm Philip Mathias
