By the Editor: The author considers, largely from a UK and Australian perspective, the price of alliance with the USA over the last 75 years in war and in peace. It considers that when Alliances have been most healthy, partners have worked on mitigating risks and developing trusts between them. When alliances have become taken for granted and costed by accountants, frequently they have lost vigour and meaning.
