By the Editor – The Naval & Military Club have initiated an annual essay competition and I have agreed to publish the winner in our journal as it hopefully will provide another perspective on our world. This is the inaugural winner. Written at the turn of the year it clearly does not reflect Putin’s War (nor interestingly considers Russia as a player) but usefully provides a high-altitude helicopter view of our geostrategic landscape – a view necessary if we are to start building credible grand-strategies for the future.
