At Independence in 1947, Britain left behind war hardened officers and sailors in the Royal Indian Navy (RIN) who had fought alongside the Royal Navy. As war repatriation, Britain transferred two RN cruisers, and by 1964 supplied an aircraft carrier and eight newly built frigates, and India’s Navy got labelled a ‘Buyer’s Navy’.
