By the Editor: Clausewitz’s maxim “war is the continuation of politics by other means” is perhaps more apposite today than first intended. But what is ‘war’? The more simplistic definition of that which involves military in conflict is giving way to a ‘grey zone’ where other means (other than military power) are dominating the struggles of emergent and established ‘Great Powers’. The ongoing trade dispute between the US and China provides an interesting case study in how a ‘Great Power’ nation is responding to China’s use of economic power in the international system.
