(Being the 2021 Hudson Lecture delivered at Exeter College Oxford on 19 May 2022) It is a great honour to have the opportunity to present the Hudson Lecture, in such splendid surroundings, and such esteemed company. My intention is to discuss the ongoing relationship between the two audiences in the room, naval practitioners and academics, using past experience to suggest how we might go forward.
