Sir, – I read with interest Jackthelad’s piece [111/2, p. 37] on the recurring theme of an apparent lack of interest from junior officers in the Review and its contents. The author hit the nail on the head when highlighting that the current job places so much time burden on the majority of modern sea-going officers (and indeed senior and junior rates), that it leaves little time to enjoy a private life let alone any extracurricular activities.
