Sir, – 50 years ago on 31 July 1970 a Royal Navy tradition of over 300 years came to end when the final daily ration of rum was issued. As it is well within living memory you would reasonably have expected that the RN to do something to commemorate it but oh no that was not to be. In the new politically correct senior Service the consumption of alcohol is frowned upon and is not to be promoted in public.
