In times of crisis, navies have long turned to unconventional solutions to meet urgent operational needs. Among the most resourceful of these has been the conversion of civilian vessels, particularly yachts and pleasure craft into naval assets. World War II saw many civilian pleasure vessels from opulent private yachts to humble motorboats pressed into military service.
