This six-monthly round up surveys recent historical articles, lectures, and new original research in the field of naval history. It highlights areas that some readers may wish to examine further by pursuing the original articles and material. A 15 minute read.

The Mariner’s Mirror and The Society for Nautical Research The August edition of the Society’s quarterly journal contained three articles examining the era of sailing navies: the German attempts to solve the longitude challenge (which was solved by Harrison in Britain), British exploration of Canada by canoe, and figureheads carved in India placed on British naval ships built there.
