Letter to the Editor: Nuclear Submarines

Picking over the three excellent submarine related pieces in the Summer edition [112/3] certainly focusses attention and gives this ‘armchair warrior’ much to be concerned about. Dan Conley [p. 363], John McGregor [p. 458] and Daniel Gorman [p. 447], albeit from very different perspectives, expose the raw truth that the nuclear Navy, once the jewel in our crown, is in trouble, be that from consuming an ever higher proportion of the budget, delivering too little in terms of availability or facing unsustainable manning issues.
