Letter to the Editor: Strategic Choices for Defence

Sir, – ‘The Strategic Choices for Defence’ [111/2, p. 54] is an excellent paper which addresses the very real need to achieve clarity and realism about our Defence objectives and properly resourcing them. That said, I perceive that Sir Jeremy is pursuing his personal agenda of advocating the relinquishment of the UK’s independent nuclear deterrent. This is evident from the limited analysis within the choices he sets out and his inclusion of SSN force expenditure within the costs of the Defence Nuclear Organisation.
