Letter to the Editor: Tactical nuclear weapons in a hypersonic world

Sir, – The 29 November 2025 edition of the Eurasian Times ran an article titled ‘China Shows The World That Deterrence Doesn’t Need Nuclear Weapons Anymore; A Wake-Up Call For Europe?’[1] In the article the columnist proposed that the development of hypersonic missiles, armed with conventional warheads, capable of strikes with little or no warning at all, has raised the conventional bar to such a high level that deterrence can be achieved without nuclear weapons – although it also suggested that they will be retained.
