Message from the Editor

Our correspondent, a former MoD civilian of the Royal Naval Supply & Transport Service (RNSTS), who served as STO(N) aboard RFA Stromness in the Falklands War [100/2, p. 140], takes aim at the delivery of the Fleet Solid Support ships.

Sir, – It is good news that at long last the three new RFA Fleet Solid Support (FSS) ships have been ordered, although it is worrying that the current difficulties at Harland and Wolff could lead to significant delays in their delivery. It seems, from the limited information available, that the ships will have generous provision for carriage of solid stores, and will restore the RN’s ability to support operations away from shore support.
