Pirates are often thought of nowadays as historical artefacts, but in reality they continue to roam the seas and threaten international imports – they remain one of the most important threats to maritime cargos.[1] Pirates have existed since ancient times, the most far-reaching pirates in early medieval Europe were the Vikings.
