This article is not an academic one, nor is it written to argue a thesis; rather, it reflects the author’s time commanding HMS Mersey during a period of significant change for the Fishery Protection Squadron. It provides a flavour of what was achieved during 2018 so that the reader can draw his or her own conclusions on how the role has evolved.
