Sir, – I read with interest Admiral Peter Briggs’ robust and cogent argument in favour of nuclear-powered submarines for the RAN (Shaping Australia’s Nuclear (Submarine) Future (NR107/2). It brought to mind the two occasions when the RCN first considered nuclear propulsion for an establishment/expansion of its submarine force (late 1950s and late 1980s).
